Home Affairs
The Ministry for Home Affairs, in cooperation with the relevant specialised agencies, is responsible for the public safety of the nation and the municipalities, for civil protection and for rescue services. Central tasks include the fields of national and municipal citizenship, popular political rights, civil status and the entire area of aliens’ law with a focus on the movement of persons, asylum, integration and homeland documents. Furthermore, the Ministry for Home Affairs is responsible for supervision of the municipalities.
The Ministry for Home Affairs manages and coordinates domestic affairs on the basis of existing legislation. In addition, the Ministry monitors international developments and uses these to initiate the further development of the relevant issues for Liechtenstein in accordance with contemporary requirements. This concerns in particular ongoing obligations arising out of Liechtenstein’s membership of Schengen/Dublin.
